Areas of Focus

Everyone experiences anxiety in varying degrees. Some are more debilitating than others. Anxiety symptoms can be experienced in a spectrum and some of these clinical anxiety disorders are:  generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder (PD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety disorder (also called social phobia), and specific phobias. You may experience excessive worrying, racing thoughts, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, difficulty sleeping, panic attacks, etc.

Depression can be experienced in many ways such as, prolonged sadness, loneliness and isolation, loss of interest, poor appetite, sleep disturbances, feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness, guilt and shame, feelings of anger and irritability.

Trauma & Abuse

Trauma is an emotional response to experiencing out of the ordinary distressing and stressful events that alters your sense of safety and security, making you feel vulnerable and helpless in a world you view as dangerous. Psychological trauma can lead you to experience nightmares, flashbacks, distressing emotions and thoughts, upsetting memories, and anxiety that does not ease up overtime. Often it can cause you to feel detached, dissociated, numb and difficulty trusting others.

Grief, Loss & Bereavement

Grief is a deep emotional response – sorrow or mental suffering – to great loss. Often grief is an emotional pain that is hard to put into words. Grief does not only occur due to a loss of a loved one through death, but can also occur from breakups, loss of job, loss of identity and anything that is meaningful to a person. There are different stages of grief that happens on a non-linear process and there is no timeline to one's healing process.

Stress Management

We experience overwhelming feelings when life is stressful and when there are multiple pressures that occur at once. Whether positive or negative stress, it can rob us of our restful sleep, increase anxiety, causing exhaustion, interfere with our self-care, and lead to negative life-style choices. Unmanaged stress over the long run can cause adverse health problems and illnesses.

Life Transitions & Adjustments

Life will always throw us a curve ball when we least expect it.  Change is a constant part of life and for many, change and uncertainty is intolerable. For the most part, people are resourceful enough to manage stress and life challenges. When there are multiple pressures that occur at once and our resources have been exhausted, one can become overwhelmed by challenges of life.
