Gone are the days when psychotherapy and counselling were reserved only for those in severe distress. Today, therapy is increasingly recognized as a powerful and proactive choice—an intentional step toward self-awareness, personal growth, and emotional resilience in the fast-paced, competitive world we live in. This blog will explore why more people are choosing individual therapy online in Ontario as a convenient, empowering way to prioritize their mental well-being.
Why It’s Important to Seek Therapy and Counselling
Although mental health stigma still exists, advancements in technology and the easy access to information and shared personal experiences have created more opportunities than ever to advocate, educate, and raise awareness around mental health issues. As a result, there’s been a growing acceptance in society toward seeking therapy and counselling as a valid and valuable form of support.
Just like our physical health, mental well-being requires consistent care and attention. We go to the gym to strengthen our bodies—likewise, our minds benefit from regular “mental fitness” through practices like mindfulness and grounding. These techniques help us become more attuned to our thoughts and emotions, enhance our self-awareness, and foster a deeper connection to ourselves.
The benefits of psychotherapy and counselling are vast and transformative. Therapy can help us identify and shift unhelpful patterns, challenge limiting beliefs, and heal old wounds. By addressing unresolved pain, we reduce the likelihood of projecting our hurt onto others, ultimately breaking the cycle of intergenerational trauma and paving the way for healthier relationships. Perhaps most importantly, therapy nurtures self-compassion—transforming the inner critic that often holds us back into a kinder, more supportive voice that encourages growth.

My Own Personal Journey with Psychotherapy
If you’ve had a chance to visit my About Me Page, you’ll know that my path to becoming a therapist was deeply personal. My passion for this work emerged from my own struggles and life experiences. A profound personal loss became the turning point that inspired me to explore and commit to my healing journey.
This journey unfolded in two phases. Initially, I turned to mindfulness and grounding practices to better understand myself and shed old ways of thinking and being. Over time, these tools helped me connect with myself and release much of the pain and resentment I had carried. Later, seeking psychotherapy—specifically Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)—became one of the most transformative experiences of my life. With the support of a skilled therapist, I was finally able to process long-buried emotions and address core wounds stemming from early attachment experiences. This deep inner work allowed me to cultivate greater empathy, insight, and compassion toward myself.
